Dr. Michael Westafer is a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist specializing in both cataract and glaucoma surgery at Sierra Nevada Eye Center. He attended the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill where he received a BS in Biology, graduating summa cum laude. He stayed at the University of North Carolina for medical school before completing his ophthalmology residency at the Medical College of Georgia.
Upon completion of his ophthalmic residency, Dr. Westafer completed a fellowship in glaucoma surgery at the world-renown Cleveland Clinic, where he was trained in advanced techniques for diagnosing and treating glaucoma.
Dr. Westafer has been practicing in northern Nevada since 2017 and is committed to offering high-quality, patient-centered care. Dr. Westafer works closely with each individual to develop a treatment plan together that best reflects the patient’s goals. He has completed thousands of cataract and glaucoma surgeries since moving to northern Nevada and offers the most advanced forms of all of these surgeries.
Dr. Westafer has been active with the American Academy of Ophthalmology, where he has served as Counselor for the state of Nevada and completed the Leadership Development Program. Outside of work, Dr. Westafer enjoys spending time with his family, including two children, and enjoying all the outdoor activities that northern Nevada has to offer.
